Hamirpur, June 11
The ruling congress party in the state is again finding it difficult to finalise its candidate for Hamirpur assembly bye election as it was during six assembly bye elections in May this year. Notably, the delay in selection of candidate had cost dearly to congress in Barsar and Dharmasala assembly bye elections as the party had lost both seats recently. It appeared that the congress leaders had not learnt lesson from the defeat in both the constituencies.
Pertinently, congress had fielded Dr. Pushpinder Verma in 2022 assembly election who lost the election by 12899 votes due to delay in finalizing the candidate. The party had announced the candidature of Pushpinder Verma on the last day of filing the nomination papers. At the same time delay in selection of candidate had added more aspirants for contesting the assembly bye election from this constituency.

The assembly bye election of the constituency would be litmus test for Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Chief Minister and selection of candidate would be first step towards victory of the party in this election. The contest here would most likely be between Ashish Sharma who joined BJP recently after resigning as Independent MLA and congress candidate. Ashish Sharma had already started his campaign and was trying to explain his point about his resignation from the post of MLA.
