“Women safety was paramount among priorities of the BJP government and Prime Minister Narender Modi had initiated numerous programmes for the women in the country”, said Anurag Thakur Union minister for Sports and Information and Broadcasting here today. He was addressing at function organised to mark the Women Day by providing 108 bikes to Himachal Pradesh Police. Significantly, Anurag Thakur had managed to get 108 bikes for the state police from Hero Moto Corp under community social responsibility (CSR). These 108 bike are further distributed to various Police stations 54 (two to each) police stations in six districts of the state including Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, Kangra, Chamba and Sirmour.
Anurag Thakur said that the bikes would be put in best use to address complaints and grievances of women received in the police stations. He said that movement of police personnel was constrained ivn the absence of conveyances and the bikes would ease the problem.
He said that contribution of women remained outstanding, be it be household chores, social life or global stage, women had discharged their role more responsibly. He said that on the occasion of International Women’s Day we must express gratitude towards their work, talent, ability and loyalty. He said that women had played commendable role in social building, policing, teaching, health services, administration, business and industry.
Despite all, there was need to pay special attention to women’s safety in the state because even reports of crime against women had not stopped in the state. The addition of 108 bikes in the fleet would increase confidence in women and they would be able to come forward with utmost confidence, he added.
Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said, “108 additional motorcycles with state Police, would prove a mile stone towards safety of women in the state.” He said that safe environment would encourage participation of women in various fields. He said that Anurag Thakur had worked for the welfare of the citizens of the state especially women. He said that MP had ensured that mothers, daughters and sisters get the access best health services, financial freedom and self-respect in the field of women empowerment.
Sanjay Kundu Director General of Police expressed gratitude to Union Minister for providing a fleet of motorcycles and said that there would be a tremendous improvement in the safety of women in the state.
Hero Corp’s CSR Head Rajesh Mukhija, international hockey player Rani Rampal and Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu also shared their views.
Debashweta Banik Deputy Commissioner and Akriti Sharma Superintendent of Police and other dignitaries were also present in the program.
