Congress-BJP performed disappointingly poor in 2022 assembly election

Hamirpur, July 10

Both major political parties including Congress and BJP had performed disappointingly poor in 2022 assembly election as independent candidate Ashish Sharma had won the election with margin of 12899 votes defeating Dr. Pushpinder Verma of congress party while BJP candidate Narender Thakur had secured third position in the 2022 assembly election. Hence both parties has to focus on the bye election of the constituency announced today. The assembly seat was vacated with the resignation of independent MLA Shaish Sharma who had joined BJP.

Notably, Ashish Sharma had secured 25916 votes while Pushpinder Verma of congress got 13017 votes and Narender Thakur got 12794 votes out of total 54793 valid polled votes. While rest of the votes were shared by candidates of other parties and independent candidates as total nine candidates contested the election.

Pertinent to mention that in 2022 election Ashish Sharma had secured 47.09 percent votes while congress candidate Pushpinder could score only 23.65 percent votes and BJP candidate Narender Thakur got 23.34 percent votes.

Meanwhile the situation in the constituency and in the state had changed considerably as now there is congress government in the state and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu hails from this district, hence CM would try his best to ensure victory of congress candidate this time. But at the same time congress need to decide on its candidate early as in 2022 the congress candidate was decided on the last day of filing of nominations. More over it is almost sure that BJP would field Ashish Sharma, who would also face the turncoat tag this time and voters could make their mind accordingly.

The nominations for the by election would start on June 14 while the polling for the election would be held on July 10.
