Hamirpur, October 4

Within minutes of BJP leaders created hype on the sewerage tax imposition in the state the congress leaders had exposed the fact that the so called ‘Toilet Tax’ was initiated by BJP government in 2018 in the state. The government sources had released a letter revealing the fact that BJP government had imposed sewerage tax initially in Municipal Corporation area in Shimla and later that was implemented in other districts of the state.

A part of the letter Notification of department of Urban Development of government of Himichal Pradesh dated Shimla September 6, 2018  bearing number UD-C (17) 1/2017- Vol.-1 was notified when Ram Subhag Singh was Additional Chief Secretary of Urban Development Department of the government and Arindam Chaudhary was Special Secretary of the UD. The notification was issued with the signatures of Arindam Chaudhary that specifically reads as:

“The sewerage user charges will be charged as 30 % of the water bill with minimum of Rs. 100/- per month. The sewerage system consumer those who do not get water from Shimla Water Supply System and have water supply from local/own sources shall be charged @ 200/- per month as sewerage user charges with 10% increase every year i.e. on first day of April.”

Meanwhile the exposure by congress on the ‘Toilet Tax’ had exposed the BJP leaders who are now trying to do face saving acts. Pertinent to mention many senior leaders of BJP including BJP national President JP Nadda, Nirmala Sitharaman Union Finance Minister, Jai Ram Thakur former CM, Rajiv Bindal BJP state President and Anurag Thakur had taken the issue of toilet tax to the social and other media platforms.

Mukesh Agnihotri Deputy Chief Minister said that BJP leaders only try to mislead people on issues that boomerang to them. He said that BJP leadership in Delhi and Himachal were only busy in destabilizing the state government but their all efforts had proved futile. He said that it was BJP that initiated sewerage tax in 2018 and congress had nothing to do with that. He said people of the state knew it well that congress could only give governance in the state.
