38182 kilometers roads constructed in 50 years: Jai Ram Thakur

“As many as 38182 kilometers of roads were constructed in Himachal Pradesh ever since inception of the state and almost every Gram Panchyat was connected with roads” , said Jai Ram Thakur Chief Minister while addressing  public meeting on the Himachal Day celebrations at Paddar in the district today. He said that there were on 288 kilometer roads in the state when it was created and now state had 38470 kilometer roads. He said that 99 percent panchyats of the state were connected with major or link roads. He said that the state had only 88 health centers and the literacy rate of the State was only 4.8 percent. He said that only six villages had electricity and the per capita income was merely Rs. 240.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the state today was reckoned among the prosperous and progressive States in the country having 14,010 villages have been connected with road facility.

Paying tribute to the Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, CM said that Dr. Parmar struggled to get special identity to the State and his contribution could not be undermined ever.


Jai Ram Thakur said that despite a small State, Himachal Pradesh has set milestones of development and many states of the country started Himachal model of development. He attributed the credit to every citizen of the State.

He said that in the government was committed for the progress of every section of the society. He said that on the very first cabinet meeting the government lowered the age limit for old age pension from 80 years to 70 years without any income limit, this benefitted lakhs of old people. He said that a sum of Rs. 642.58 crore was spent on social security pensions and 1,63,607 new cases of social security pension were added.

CM said that Jan Manch programme had proved a boon to the people for redressal of their grievances. He said that as many as 200 Jan Manch programmes were organized in all assembly segments to establish direct communication with the public and resolved 48,694 complaints.

Earlier Chief Minister inaugurated bridge over Baggi Nallah on Seghali-Prashar road (Rs. 3.94 crore), PLWS for scheduled tribe population (Rs. 1.94 crore) and LWSS to habitations from Uhl river to Tung Bizan and its adjoining villages (Rs. 2.68 crore).

He laid foundation stones of Rs. 1.75 crore building of GSSS Sahal, Rs 50 lac helipad at Prashar, Rs. 53.62 lac for construction foot bridge over Uhl river from Barot to Multhan, Rs. 1.08 crore span bridge over Riggad Nallah on Padhar-Hardgalu road, Rs. 1.26 crore for science laboratory at GSSS Sudhar, Rs. 1.16 crore tap connections augmentation and improvement of WSS Julang Sanglwan to village Batheri and its adjoining villages and of Rs. 38 lac Mukhiya Mantri Lok Bhawan at Hardgalu.

The CM Laid foundation stone of Ghatasni-Barot road and Katindhi to Kashala road to be completed at a cost of Rs. 25.19 crore and Rs. 7.09 crore respectively.
