Vietnam restricted trade in wild animals in pandemic

Delhi, July 25 (QNN)

The Vietnam had restricted the import and trade of wild animals and had ordered the closing of markets where they were sold illegally to prevent spread of pandemic COVID -19. The Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed the order on Thursday to be imposed  with immediate effect. The order was well received by the international environmental organization WWF.

All citizens, including cadres of the Communist Party, public employees and their families, would be prohibited from hunting, transporting, trading and storing wild animals, said Prime Minister of Vietnam.

The Government had ordered the law enforcing authorities to review the existing laws and introduce the necessary amendments to strictly control the trade of wild animals.

The government measures came amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. The directive was a timely action recognizing the possible threat of an upcoming pandemic.
