Shimla. The state government had made adequate facilities for packing Cherry, Apricot and Green Almond crops. The crops are ready to harvesst in the upper hills of Shimla district . The district administration has arranged about 6 lakh 50 thousand boxes for cherries, one lakh for almonds packing and 1.5 lakh boxes for Apricot packaging.
The procurement of these boxes would enable orchardists to bring their produce to the markets. Notably, state produces fruits including Cherry, Almond and Apricot worth Rs. 25 crore in the state. While shimla and Kullu districts lead in the production with over 70 percent collectively. Other districts that produce these varieties of fruits include Solan, Mandi, Sirmour and Kinnour.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap said that administration would provide every possible help to farmers and orchardists. He said that apart from providing packaging material they would also be given access to the market so that they can sell their produce. He stressed that people should follow guidelines during the covid lockdown. This would not only save them from infection but would save the society as whole, he added.
