National Rafting Marathon from October 04 at Nadaun

Local tourism would get boost

the National Rafting Marathon on the waters of Beas river as this would open new opportunities for tourism and adventure sports in the district. This was stated by Deva Shveta Banik deputy commissioner at Nadaun today. She said that the four days long national rafting marathon would be held from October 4.  She said that about 30 teams from across the country would participate in the event. She said that so far 23 teams had registered for the event including eight women teams.

Danilo Barmez President of World Rafting Federation through a video clip said, “I am pleased to know that state of Himachal Pradesh is celebrating its 50th anniversary statehood.  I wish all the organisers, the teams and officers all the very best and wish the best teams win the rafting marathon.”

DC said that the ethic committee of WRF had urged participant to strictly follow WRF ethics code that included fairplay, gender equality, safeguarding dignity of participants, respect local laws including local culture, customs and religious beliefs. She told that the event would be organised under aegis of tourism department.   

The administration had given preliminary rafting training to about 80 rafters including 20 women, she added. She said that some of them would be sent for advance training to state mountaineering institute at Manali.
