Governor Bandaru Dattatraya emphasized on the need of spreading awareness regarding of viral Hepatitis on world Hepatitis day. He said that the day was commemorated each year to enhance awareness of viral hepatitis that caused an inflammation of the liver and could lead to liver cancer.
Urging citizens on World Hepatitis Day Governor said that people should pledge to raise awareness to achieve the goal of Hepatitis free State.
Quoting report of World Health Organization Dattatraya said that ten percent of people living with hepatitis-B and 19 percent living with hepatitis-C are aware of their hepatitis status and millions of people are unaware that they are living with preventable and treatable disease.

Governor said that thousands of new patients of hepatitis were reported every year due to lack of awareness. He said that awareness about the viral hepatitis was the first step of prevention. Hepatitis-B and C virus infections were the major causes of liver diseases worldwide and people should take measures to prevent it.
