Director of NIT Hamirpur stripped of Administrative and financial powers, Went on Leave

Hamirpur, July 16 (QNN)

The Director of National Institute of Technology Hamirpur Vinod Yadva in Himachal Pradesh was reportedly stripped of administrative and financial powers by MHRD  and Prof. Lalit Awasthi Director NIT Jallandhar was given additional charge as temporary Director of NIT Hamirpur.  Dr. Awasthi had assumed the charge on July 14 on online platform as Prof. Vinod Yadva had gone on leave after his powers were snatched.  

Meanwhile, the registrar of NIT here Sunil Kumar was also removed from the post today and Dr. Umesh Gupta was appointed new Registrar of the institute. More such changes were expected in the institution after Dr. Lalit Awasthi took over as Director here.

The sources revealed that many hostel wardens, Deans, officers at other important positions could be changed with immediate effect. This would be done to enable proper investigation of allegations leveled against former director.  

Notably, the ministry of the union government had ordered to strip the powers following an inquiry in alleged scams in the NIT. Pertinently, serious allegations of misuse of powers by Vinod Yadva Director of the NIT in selections and appointment of faculty members at various positions.

Notably, Anurag Thakur  minister of state for finance and corporate affairs and MP from the constituency had raised the issue with Ramesh Pokhriyal Minister MHRD. Pokhariyal had assured Anurag Thakur that the allegations would be investigated and guilty would be dealt strictly. it was learnt that apart from leaders of opposition many other people from NIT and Hamirpur had complaint about the working of the director.

It was alleged that the director had influenced the selection committee for gross violations in the selection of incumbents. It was also alleged that many of the incumbents he selected were either from certain community and had ignored merit appoint them.

Rajinder Rana a congress MLA from Sujanpur constituency also raised the issue of wrong selection of teachers at various levels. Rana had alleged that selections to the posts upto the ranks of associate professors were filled by ignoring the merit.

The sources told that a secretary level officer was assigned to investigate the allegations leveled against the director by the MHRD, who would soon be visiting the institute.

Prof. Chander Shekhar Chairman of NIT said that it was true that the MHRD had stripped the powers of Vinod Yadva director of NIT Hamirpur. He said that MHRD had constituted a team to investigate the allegations in NIT. He said that Dr. Lalit Awasthi was given additional charge of Director NIT Hamirpur.
