Quality Concern: Rs. 20 crore Bridge Collapsed in Shimla

Chief Minister Ordered inquiry into the matter, assigned task to quality control cell

Shimla: May 13, (QNB)

The major part of a bridge that was under construction over River Pabbar on the Rohru by-pass road collapsed today raising questions on the quality of the construction. The bridge under constructing was to connect Bakheerana on the left bank of the bridge. It was learnt that three out of three spans of the bridge two had fallen into the river. No causalities were reported so far as there was hardly any work in progress at the time of incident.

Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur had directed the quality control cell of the government to investigate the matter.

Sanjay Kumdu, Chairman of the quality control cell had constituted an investigation team including Deepak Sharma Superintending Engineer, Lalit Grover Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer Devesh Thakur. The team was directed to submit their investigation report at the earliest.

“Strict action would be taken against all defaulters,” said Sanjay Kundu.

Significantly, the construction of  96 meter long bridge was started in June 2018 and was expected to complete by now. It was apprehended that the lockdown due to corona virus lockdown delayed the project  to some extent.
