Shimla: The 25th convocation of the Himachal Pradesh University will see the use of Khadi clothes, a change to the norm of black gowns worn since the British era as announced by a senior official from HPU. The University Grants Commission had issued a directive few months ago for universities including HPU to make use of Khadi clothes said Professor Ranvir Verma, HPU public relations officer.
The Himachal Pradesh University’s convocation will be held on 25th November 2019. Following the UGC’s directive the HPU decided to use khadi clothes during its convocation said Prof Verma. He also addes that in the upcoming convocation a khadi basket with multi coloured Himachal cap (Kullu design) and a khadi muffler with university logo on its both ends will be used.
An expert committee recommended the use of particular Khadi clothes for the convocation and the same has been approved by the HPU’s executive council in a meeting held on Saturday and chaired by the Vice Chancellor, khadi vasket with multi coloured Himachal cap of Kullu design and khadi muffler with university logo on its both ends will be used. The clothes, however, said Professor Verma will be used temporarily only for the 25th convocation.
