Himachal to Go for Polls on November 12, Results on December 8

The Election Commission on Friday October 14 today, announced that assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh would be held on November 12 and counting will be held on December 8.
The EC would formally issue the gazette notification for the polls on October 17 and the last date of nominations would be October 25.
It was expected that Gujarat and Himachal elections would be announced together but the EC on only announced the poll schedule for Himachal Pradesh.
In Himachal, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was looking forward to repeat for the second consecutive time. While traditionally, the BJP and Congress have alternated in power in the state barring once in 1985 when congress repeated government with Virbhadra Singh was chief Minister in the state.
Notably, the term of the Gujarat Assembly would end on February 18 next year while that of Himachal Pradesh on January 8, 2023.
The Commission team had recently visited the two states to take stock of poll preparedness before declaring elections in the state.
