Shimla Gets Chopper Landing in the heat of City
Shimla, famous as ‘Queen of Hills’ added another feather in its cap as Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated a heliport at Sanjouli today. The Heliport is built at a cost of Rs 18 crore close to Sanjauli-Dhali bypass. While speaking to media, the Chief Minister said that for the construction of this project, the Central Government has provided Rs 12.13 crore under Himalayan Circuit of Swadesh Darshan program and Rs 6 crore under UDAN-2 scheme of the Central Government. He said that this heliport will not only facilitate the tourists coming to the state, but also be effectively used for emergency services due to its proximity to Indira Gandhi Medical College and hospital.
Significantly, earlier Annadale Ground and Charabra heliports were used for VVIP movements while Jubbar Hatti Airport was available for public transport which was over 20 kilometers away from the city.
Jai Ram Thakur said that this three storied heliport is equipped with all modern facilities including reception counter, heliport manager’s office, ticket counter and VIP lounge etc. He said that the heliport also has the facility of port cabin for the arrival of passengers, parking for 50 vehicles, deck for helicopter and safety net.
The heliport would not only be an added attraction but also improve influx of tourists and ease traffic congestion to some extent, Chief Minister added. Interestingly, people coming to this heliport would have memorable aerial view of Shimla and snow covered hills around the Hill Queen.
