Soldier martyred in encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district

A security force jawan was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Army spokesman gave this information on Friday. On the basis of intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in Hanjin, Rajpora village of Pulwama, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation late on Thursday night.

When the security force personnel were moving towards a target area after sealing all the exit points, the terrorists opened fire on them. After this the security forces also retaliated and the encounter started. A 44 RR jawan was injured during the encounter following which he died in the hospital, the spokesman said.

He said that there is a possibility of presence of three to four terrorists in the area. According to sources, residents of the area have been shifted to safer places. Meanwhile, internet has been suspended in Pulwama as a precautionary measure. Additional security forces have been deployed in the nearby area to prevent deteriorating law and order.
