Poonam Grover elected Mayor of corporation

Congress councilors were elected to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Municipal Corporation Solan today. Poonam Grovar was elected Mayor while Rajeev Kaura was elected Deputy Mayor. Both congress councilors got 9 votes each in the house of 17 while BJP candidates could get only 8 votes each.
Significantly, the election was crucial for both congress and BJP as BJP was contesting to make its impression for the coming assembly elections next year.
Kuldeep Rathor President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee said that BJP tried its best to stop congress from constituting governing body at Solan but failed in its notorious designs. He said that congress party was thankful to people of Solan who entrusted the responsibility of the MC to congress party. He said that congress would perform better in assembly elections as BJP had lost its popularity and trust among masses.
Rajinder Rana vice president of HPCC, who was incharge of MC elections at Solan said that many BJP leaders were contacting Congress councilors but congress councilors did not succumbed to BJP designs. He said that both mayor and deputy mayor would add pace to the development of the town. He said that congress believed in uniform development of the state and the towns as well.
