Hamirpur, June 16 (QNN)
The road widening project near Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) Hamirpur had stopped following encroachment on PWD land by kiosks holders. Notably, PWD had initiated the road widening work near bus stand it could not progress as some kiosk holders had created hurdles and were not ready to remove the encroachment despite repeated notices of the department. The district administration had also allotted shops to these people in the newly constructed shopping complex but they were adamant to remain in the old kiosks.
Pertinent to mention that the size of the Kiosks given to them was about 5×6 feet but these people had extended the kiosks to make it bigger in size by encroaching on the PWD land alongside the road. The extensions constructed were clearly visible and PWD authorities had served them notices repeatedly to vacate the encroachments.
There are about 120 shops in the new commercial complex constructed by spending over Rs. 2.5 Crores. The administration had made a beautification plan in front of commercial complex but encroachment had also stalled the plan too.
Vivek Sharma Executive Engineer of PWD said that the road widening was important for the safety of people and avoiding regular traffic snarls near bus stand. He said that department was trying to removing the encroachment done in front of kiosks amicably. The department had given them time to remove encroachment done along roadside, else help of law enforcing agencies and administration would be taken, he added.
Harikesh Meena Deputy Commissioner here said that sufficient numbers of shops were available in the new commercial complex and everyone would be accommodated there. He said that PWD was assigned the work to widen the road. In case of any problem, administration would help in restoring the PWD land there he said.
