Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education has announced the summer vacation for the schools in the state. As per the announcement made, the summer vacation dates for the schools in Himachal Pradesh will be from May 18 to May 31, 2020. As per reports, the board has announced the summer vacation dates in a bid to reopen the schools in the state after the lockdown is lifted on May 31, 2020. The Central Government had recently announced an extension to the ongoing nationwide lockdown until May 31, 2020. The letters addressed to the heads of the educational institutions of privately managed schools have stated that there will be a vacation for two weeks with effect from May 18 to 31, 2020 in all the government schools and private schools affiliated to the state board across the state. The schools in the state have been shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown since March 2020. Himachal Pradesh State Education Minister Suresh Bharadwaj said that a total of 6,127 schools in Himachal Pradesh are functioning with student strength less than 20. The state has 4,994 primary schools, 1,092 middle schools, 32 high schools and 9 senior secondary schools with a strength below 20. According to reports, the education minister also informed that there are schools with a single student and 80 schools with student strength less than five. Even in such schools, the teaching process is conducted with mid-day meals prepared for the students and in some cases, children of migrant laborers are enrolled in these schools.
