On the auspicious occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17, a special assistive device distribution programme is being organised in the Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency as a tribute to and in recognition of persons with disabilities. Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur will be the Chief Guest at the programme.
The distribution programme, organised by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in collaboration with the District Administration, Hamirpur, and the District Red Cross Society, will be held on September 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Bachat Bhawan, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Hamirpur.
It is noteworthy that assessment camps were organised from March 16 to 20, 2026, across all five subdivisions of Hamirpur district—Barsar, Hamirpur, Sujanpur, Nadaun and Bhoranj. All eligible persons with disabilities and senior citizens identified during these assessment camps will be provided modern artificial limbs and assistive devices at the distribution camp.
Anurag Singh Thakur said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has undertaken historic initiatives to make the lives of persons with disabilities more accessible, dignified and self-reliant. He said Prime Minister Modi gave society a new perspective by replacing the term ‘Viklang’ with ‘Divyang’, a word that reflects dignity, capability and strength.
He said that initiatives such as the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, the nationwide Accessible India Campaign, standardisation of Indian Sign Language, and various facilities provided under government schemes have helped connect persons with disabilities with the mainstream of development.
Under the ADIP (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances) Scheme and the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), modern assistive devices, motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids and artificial limbs are being provided to eligible beneficiaries. This, he said, is not merely assistance but a meaningful recognition of the dignity, self-respect and determination of persons with disabilities.
Anurag Singh Thakur appealed to all identified beneficiaries and their family members to reach Bachat Bhawan at 10:00 AM on September 17 and avail themselves of the benefits of this service initiative. Beneficiaries are required to bring the registration receipt issued during the earlier assessment camp and their Aadhaar card for identification and completion of the necessary formalities.
In case a beneficiary is unable to attend personally due to illness or physical inability, their family members may collect the assistive device on their behalf by producing the beneficiary’s Aadhaar card, their own Aadhaar card and the beneficiary’s registration receipt.
