West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s younger brother Ashim Banerjee died of Covid-19 at a hospital in Kolkata this morning. He was 62 and battling corona from last one month.
Dr Alok Roy, chairman of Medica Superspecialty Hospital in Kolkata told PTI, “he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment,”.
The last rituals was performed this afternoon as per Covid protocols. Ashim Banerjee was living in the same house where Mamta Banerjee is living.
In the last 24hours West Bengal has reported 20,846 fresh COVID-19 cases. The Bengal government has announced a lockdown from May 16 to May 30. Government has also declared a night curfew from 9pm to 5am starting from Sunday.
