Shoolini University, known for its commitment to social causes, organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla.
The event aimed to promote blood donation as a life-saving act while promoting a sense of social responsibility among students and staff.
Mrs. Poonam Nanda, Director Sustainability and Community Engagement, said that blood donation saves lives and strengthens community bonds.
The camp saw participation from students, faculty, and staff, with a target of 100 units of blood, the university nearly reached the goal by the event’s conclusion. Mrs. Nanda thanked IGMC for their collaboration and commended the participants for their generosity.
Alongside the blood donation camp, Shoolini University also hosted Pink October, a campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer, one of the most significant health challenges faced by women worldwide. Mrs. Nanda, a breast cancer survivor, shared her personal journey and stressed the importance of early detection and regular screenings.
“As breast cancer continues to be a major health threat, awareness and timely detection are critical in saving lives. It is essential that young people encourage their families, especially mothers, to prioritize health,” said, Mrs. Nanda.
The university also promoted its #MyMotherMatters initiative, launched last year, which encourages students to discuss the importance of health check-ups with their mothers and loved ones. Under this programme, university representatives visit classrooms to motivate students to have open conversations about preventive healthcare.
Fundraising stalls were set up as part of the Pink October campaign, with proceeds supporting cancer awareness programmes. Mrs. Nanda urged the participants to spread awareness, stating, “With more conversations and timely check-ups, we can save lives and promote better health for future generations.”
