Neri Herbal Garden succeeded in Vermilion (sindoor) propagation
in April month of 2021 and the scientists here succeeded in propagation of only 25 plants from seeds that were brought from Maharashtra. Later a nursery of plants was developed here from the seeds from the first lot of plants. The success of this plant had given new hope to farmers of the sub tropical climate of the region is found suitable for the cultivation of Sindoor plants.

The Herbal Garden established by Ayurveda department in village Neri near here had succeeded in propagation of Vermilion (sindoor) plantation. Significantly, Sindoor plant was mostly cultivated in Maharashtra and some parts of Madhya Pradesh. The trial for the propagation of was started in April month of 2021 and the scientists here succeeded in propagation of only 25 plants from seeds that were brought from Maharashtra. Later a nursery of plants was developed here from the seeds from the first lot of plants. The success of this plant had given new hope to farmers of the sub tropical climate of the region is found suitable for the cultivation of Sindoor plants.
Meanwhile, authorities at the herbal garden had given some plants to farmers on experimental basis and had started developing bigger nursery following success of the plant here.
Pertinent to mention that the herbal garden was established at Neri in over 28 acre including 18 acre under research and development activities. Apart from Vermilion plants the garden is raising nursery of various herbal pants mainly of five types of Tulsi, Aprajita, Baluchi, Brahmi, Sarapgandha, Ashawagandha, elovera, Nagkesar, Shatawari and Insulin in shrubs and Chandan, Neem Ashoka, tezpatta, Harad, Behra and Aonla in tree types.
Dr. Kamal Bhardwaj Incharge of Neri herbal garden said that Vermilion (Sindoor) plants that are scientifically known as Bixa Orellana were successfully grown at the herbal garden. He added that a plant starts bearing fruit in second year and could be harvested till ten years. He said that the plant is sold at Rs. 50 while seed costs Rs. 8000 per kilogram. Once cultivated farmers could get good price for the produce for longer duration.
